Holiday Music Camp!!!

Music Rhapsody’s camp came to a close today.   We hope we will see all the students back for weekly music classes starting January 2, 2012!

We enjoyed dancing with poms poms to a piece in Rondo Form, The Viennese Clock.  This piece is found on the Kids Can Listen, Kids Can Move, which also has many of the children’s favorite pieces from this week’s movement classes.

We enjoyed having Martha Kleiner here as a special guest for Music Rhapsody’s Holiday Camp.   Martha was raised in the Music Rhapsody program.  She received her Bachelors of Music in Performance from the New England Conservatory in Boston and is now playing in the Debut and Colburn Orchestra, Los Angeles.

Martha shared information about the special reeds she makes for her oboe and played selections by Mozart and Ravel.   She also entertained with her brother Luc playing trumpet and mom, Lynn, playing piano.   Our campers enjoyed singing and dancing to the holiday music.

We’ve played lots of instruments and musical games to enhance listening and coordination skills while having lots of fun.

Music Rhapsody’s oldest Holiday Camper’s acted out several stories this week, complete with Orff instruments, recorders, movement and singing.  Little Penguin’s Tale and The Mitten were our favorite music lessons so far.  The children created their own Orff accompaniment for each animal in The Mitten.  Our younger music makers enjoyed dances and a huge variety of percussion instruments.   Each one sang a solo for the campers, choosing a variety of songs.    Instrument making is always a favorite at music camp. The bamboo ocarina’s had a beautiful sound!

Lynn Kleiner led exciting activities at Music Rhapsody’s holiday music camp on Monday.  Lynn received the best complement she could ever hear when one of the students told her mother she did not want to go to Disneyland as her family had planned for Tuesday, she wanted to return to the holiday camp!

Here’s a few highlights of our first day: Students enjoyed a snowball fight with cotton balls yesterday as they listened to “Let it Snow!”    The recorders and Orff instruments were used to accompany a delightful story called “Little Penguin’s Tale”.   The Sound Shapes were used for some amazing drumming activities.

Martin Espino led the inspiring instrument making sessions. Luc Kleiner played trumpet with holiday favorites like Sleigh Ride (making a great horse sound at the end!) and showed some fun drumming techniques.

There are still openings for the rest of the week, ages 4 and up!
