Simply Music Rhapsody Teacher Licensing Information

Simply Music Rhapsody is a unique early childhood music program created by Lynn Kleiner based on the Orff Schulwerk philosophy.  Simply Music Rhapsody begins at birth and leads children directly into Simply Music’s unique playing-based piano and keyboard program.

Teachers must be licensed to teach Simply Music Rhapsody.   Teachers must meet specific requirements to take the Live Teacher Trainings or the Distance-Based Teacher Training Program:

Teachers must complete the Teacher Application, The License Agreement and the Payment and Participation Form and submit them to Simply Music along with the appropriate training fee.

Teachers must schedule a Skype interview with Simply Music Rhapsody Director Lynn Kleiner.   During that 10 minute interview, be prepared to do the following:

-Sing a song (chose from Amazing Grace, Silent Night, Somebody’s Knocking on My Door, or Let it Be)

-Demonstrate your ability to match pitch

-Demonstrate your ability to keep a steady beat

-Answer questions about your desire to teach Simply Music Rhapsody

Teachers must satisfactorily complete the Live Teacher Training or the Distance-Based Teacher Training. Following the training, the teacher must submit a video representation of the teacher’s ability to lead a group lesson.

The Distance Based Training will be available beginning in July 2012 and in addition to the initial Skype interview and teaching video as described above,  “Passing” the Distance Based Training will be determined by an exit interview.

There are four, 10 week modules for each age group (Birth to Walking, Independently Walking One and Two Year Olds, Two and Three Year Olds, Three and Four Year Olds and Four and Five Year Olds).

Each module includes:  10 complete lesson plans with teacher and parent tips, Lyric Charts,  At a Glance guides for each lesson,  Sheet Music for each song,  video recordings of three complete classes,  and videos of each activity, and CDs you can download to have your weekly  playlists of the music complete for each class.  These materials will initially be provided in a mix of digital and hard copy format.  Each module is $50.00

Teachers are required to have the following items in their classrooms:

Remo Gathering Drum ($549) and a minimum of two sets of Student Home Materials per age group (there is some overlap—please see the Student Home Materials page for specific information). The approximate cost of getting started with the minimum basics is $630 plus shipping. This includes a 25% discount off of the retail prices.

Additional relevant visual materials such as puppets, props and felts may be purchased or made.

An iPod dock or CD player is needed.

Parents are required to purchase, from you, Student Home Materials (instrument kit with first semester CD) once per year and a second semester CD once per year.   The cost of the Student Home Materials is $48.00 which includes the instrument kit and first semester CD. The second semester CD is $17.98.

Teachers will pay an Education Fee to Simply Music of $1.00 per lesson per student.  These fees are sent to Simply Music once per month.

Teachers will pay a yearly License Fee of $50.00 recurring on November 1.  This License Fee includes all programs in the Simply Music Program (Simply Music, Simply Music Rhapsody, Play-a-Story, the Accordion Program).

The training at any one of the three sites will give the licensed teacher:

  • The first ten detailed lesson plans for each of the five separate age groups (birth – 5 years – 50 lesson plans on all), which include Lynn's tips for teachers and educational tips for parents
  • Lyric sheets for every lesson
  • Printed music for all songs
  • Classroom visuals
  • Playlists on CD for every lesson
  • DVD's showing Lynn teaching every activity to her classes, including entire lessons!

Days 1 & 2 lead you through active music making activities and demonstrates the importance of music education for babies, toddlers, and 2 & 3 year olds. Gather information on infant musical development and learn the materials to share in weekly classes. Learn how to foster listening and motor skills, enhance language development and gain a sense of balance and timing while having fun. The curriculum includes delightful folk songs, dances and instruments for parent and child, in addition to beautiful piano pieces from our Simply Music program, orchestral and world music. Puppets, felts, props and a variety of visuals add to the fun and magic of this special musical binding time, laying a solid foundation for a musical life.

Days 2 & 3 give you the hands-on tools for teaching music and movement from from an Orff Schulwerk philosophy to children ages 3 to 5. You will know the “how and why” for Orff instruments, solo singing, coordination and timing games, rhymes and stories. You will see why movement is so important for learning and how ear training skills are easily developed in the early childhood years in this game-like approach.  For children, these classes are just pure fun, but early musical training brings joy and success to any future musical pursuit.

Days 1, 2 & 3 is the option to select to become a licensed Simply Music Rhapsody specialist from birth through age 5, covering all the exciting content described in A and B. The complete training and materials will give the teacher more opportunities for growth in their studio and offer families the choice needed for siblings. This is highly recommended to receive the most thorough training and clear process for teaching. In addition, it’s another day of fun!
