About Lynn Kleiner

Lynn Kleiner has been making music her entire life. She grew up in a family that loved singing, dancing and listening to music. Gathering around the piano for sing-along’s was common in their Illinois home which was a lively household including many foster children. Lynn’s favorite childhood memories are her mother singing while playing the piano and her father bouncing her on his lap to “Pony Boy” and rocking her to “You Are My Sunshine”.

Lynn continued on to major in music at Eastern Illinois University. It was there that she was introduced to Orff Schulwerk.  She continued with graduate studies at Arizona State University and a master certification in Orff Schulwerk from University of Memphis and UCLA.

In 1976, she started teaching private and group piano lessons and began teaching music in the public schools in 1978. Lynn then took her passion for music and translated it into a ground-breaking venture when she founded Music Rhapsody in 1983. The innovative program for babies and toddlers and young children encourages parents and their children to actively make music together with high quality percussion instruments, developed by Lynn with the international drum company, Remo. Parents and tots also enjoy playing the ukulele and various other instruments during class time.

All this came about when Lynn turned challenging circumstances into a winning situation. When Lynn moved to California in the early 80’s, the school cutbacks made by the state due to Proposition 13 made it difficult to find employment as a music teacher. So she decided to take her love of music, love of teaching, and love of children, and look for a way to combine them all in an innovative and creative way. The result is Music Rhapsody – the amazing program which continues to educate parents and children alike in a colorful, fun, innovative and musical environment.

Lynn is the driving force behind the growth of Music Rhapsody and invests a majority of her time and energy to help promote early childhood music education. She lives in Manhattan Beach, California with her husband Steve.  She has two musically talented adult children Martha and Luc who donate a great amount of their free time on a regular basis assisting with Music Rhapsody’s unique summer camp and other various concerts and events.
